Botox In Bournemouth

Have fine lines or wrinkles started to appear on your skin? Would you like to remove them and look younger?

Want to look more like you did 10 years ago?

Without getting surgery?

If so, the answer might be Botox.

Botox can be very effective at both reducing and removing wrinkles, even after only one treatment.

In fact, it is the most popular treatment worldwide for treating wrinkles. It has become super popular because the results are amazing, and also because it is considered a very safe treatment.

The treatment is done in 30-45 minutes, and normally requires no downtime. Which means you can continue with your day as normal and nobody would be able to tell you just went for treatment. 👍

What Exactly Is Botox?

Botox is a brand of a botulinum injection. There are other brands as well such as Dysport, Xeomin or Myobloc, but Botox is the most well known one.

Then what is botulinum?

Botulinum is actually a neurotoxin. And it is produced by a bacteria called Clostridium Botulinum. These bacteria can be found basically anywhere in forests, dirt, water, animals, insects, etc.

This neurotoxin is in fact one of the most potent toxins know, but because only very small amounts of it is normally produced, it typically does not cause any harm.

That said, when a living organism comes in contact with botulinum in larger doses, it can cause  muscle paralysis.

When scientists discovered this potent effect, they started experimenting to see if it could be used for any medical treatments.

And they found ways that it could be applied.

It was first used in the late 1970’s to treat the eye disorders ‘crossed eyes’. This turned out hugely successful, and it was then approved in 1989 for other muscle eye disorders such as squinting, wandering eye, lazy eye and twitching eye.

However:

The doctors noticed an interesting side effect!

They saw that the wrinkles that patients had around their eyes became less visible, and in some cases basically disappeared.

Hence, these injections had 2 effects: They helped treat the intended ailment, and in addition they also reduced wrinkles.

This in turn set in motion research into whether botulinum could be used as a wrinkle treatment.

The research results came back with a ‘yes’!

In 2002, it was granted approval for cosmetic treatment of wrinkles.

Fast-forward to today, and it is now the most popular wrinkle treatment on the planet.

And in addition to treating wrinkles, it is still being used for many of the initial eye conditions, plus it is utilized for a number of new conditions. In total, botulinum is used to treat more than 20 different muscular conditions.

Some of these include eye squints, migraines, excess sweating and leaky bladders.

How Does Botox Remove Wrinkles?

Before we understand how Botox can remove wrinkles, let’s first understand how these fine lines and wrinkles are formed in the first place.

What causes fine lines and wrinkles on your skin, are predominantly muscle contractions.

In other words, wrinkles are caused by facial expressions.

For instance, when you smile and laugh, you will normally raise your cheeks so that the skin around the outer corners of your eyes fold. This will typically cause the wrinkles that are called Crow’s Feet.

Also, when something surprises you or catches your attention, you often lift your eyebrows. This in turn causes the skin on your forehead to fold, causing wrinkles that are called Forehead Lines.

Here is the thing:

When you make the same facial expressions over and over again, your skin will naturally fold in the very same places. This is what causes wrinkle formation.

Because after repeated folding, your skin will no longer return to its smooth initial state.

Your skin is flexible, but only to a certain point. At some point, the folds and wrinkles will remain even when you are no longer making the facial expressions.

As you get older and as you keep making these same muscle contractions, fine lines will often turn into wrinkles, and wrinkles will in many cases turn into deeper wrinkles.

So repeated facial expressions are normally the number one source of wrinkles.

However, it is not the only thing that causes wrinkles.

Other culprits are: stress, smoking, drinking alcohol, lack of sleep, pollution, a bad diet, and excessive sunlight.

So then the question is:

How can Botox help reduce or remove these wrinkles?

We already learned that Botox is a neurotoxin that has the power to paralyse.

When Botox is used to treat wrinkles, a tiny amount of diluted Botulinum is injected into a certain group of facial muscles.

This Botulinum temporarily paralyses this muscle group. It may paralyse the muscle group completely or only partly, depending on the amount used.

When these muscles are paralysed, they will not be able to contract, or be less able to contract. The result is that you no longer make the same fold on your skin as you did before, when making this facial expression.

Therefore, you will no longer continue to expand these fine lines and wrinkles.

Over time, when you are no longer creating the same folds in your skin, your skin will start to move back to its initial and smooth state. And in the end, the wrinkle can disappear totally.

That is how Botox can help remove your wrinkles. 👍

Some people have asked if Botox is the same as dermal fillers.

They are not the same.

Botox consists of the neurotoxin Botulinum and is used to stop or reduce muscle contractions, which in turn stops wrinkle formation.

Dermal fillers consist of a filler material, and has two different purposes:

1) It can be used to treat wrinkles by adding volume to the skin where you have wrinkles, and reduce or remove the wrinkles this way.

2) A dermal filler can also be used to simply add volume to a part of your face for aesthetic reasons. The most normal fillers are lip fillers, nose fillers and cheek fillers.

What Is The Cost Of Botox?

The cost of a Botox treatment will depend on what area you wish to treat, and also the amount of Botox needed.

If you do a search for prices, you will typically find that prestigious and long serving clinics will charge more for the same treatments, than newer clinics. One Botox area will at such a clinic normally cost around £150 – £200.

At TreatMyWrinkles Bournemouth, we are not only one of the highest quality clinics in Bournemouth, but we also have very affordable prices.

We offer 3 areas (Forehead Lines, Frown Lines and Crow’s Feet) for £180.

Our price for one area is £130.

We also provide Botox treatments for Hyperhidrosis (under arm sweating), which costs £280.

Botox Before And After

The big effects of Botox are not immediate. During the first few days after the treatment, the changes will often be noticeable, but they will in most cases still be mild.

However, as your skin stops making repeated folds, it gets a chance to get back towards its original state. This will normally take a few weeks or months.

An initial Botox treatment simply needs time to fully produce the effects. In fact, it would probably be strange and look unnatural in any event, if you completely changed the state of your facial skin overnight.

But the effects of Botox after a few weeks can be absolutely great! Wrinkles can be significantly reduced, and in some cases can disappear.

And with continued Botox treatment over months or years, the before and after comparison will normally be outstanding.

Wrinkles will in many cases disappear completely, and many of our clients in Bournemouth say they feel 10 years younger. 👍

What Wrinkles Do We Treat With Botox?

There are a number of wrinkles and areas that can be treated with Botox. These are some of the most common ones (however this is not an exhaustive list):

  • Crow’s Feet (wrinkles at the outer corner of the eyes)
  • Forehead Lines (horizontal lines on the forehead)
  • Frown Lines (vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows)
  • Bunny Lines (wrinkles on upper part of the nose)
  • Marionette Lines (vertical lines down from the corners of mouth)
  • Dimpled Chin (one or more lines on the chin)
  • Upper Lip Lines (vertical lines above upper lip)
  • Lip Flip (make upper lip more visible)
  • Gummy Smile (reduce visible gum when you smile)
  • Masseter Muscle (reduce the masseter (jaw muscle) size)
  • Platysmal Bands (vertical cords in neck / throat)
  • Necklace lines (horizontal lines that cross over the neck)

How To Get Ready For The Botox Treatment?

To get a Botox injection is a relatively simple and straight-forward treatment. It does not require any surgery or anything complicated.

Therefore, you can go on with your regular life before you come for a Botox treatment, However, there are a few specific ‘things’ that we advise you not to do.

3 days before the treatment, we encourage you to avoid painkillers and all blood-thinning medications. If you depend on medications, please consult with us beforehand.

You should also ideally not drink any alcohol 24 hours before the treatment. Alcohol is also a blood thinner.

We want you to avoid this because anything blood-thinning can increase bruising after the injections are made.

We also advise you to stop smoking (or reduce it as much as possible) 3 days before treatment. Smoking deprives your skin of oxygen and nutrients, and it may therefore make the treatment less effective.

In addition, we suggest that you try not to consume very salty foods 3 days before the treatment. If you consume excess salt, this will cause the body to retain water, which in turn may make the injected areas swell.

In addition to cause bruising and swelling, any of the above may make the treatment less effective and you may not see the results you want.

Should you be uncertain about whether something is OK or not, just ask us. 👍

Other than this, you can go on with your normal life as you otherwise would have.

If you want to learn more about how to prepare for the treatment, you find more info here.

What Will Happen During The Botox Treatment?

When you arrive, we will first make you feel comfortable and ready for the treatment. We will then explain every step of the process, so you understand exactly what will happen.

Before we do the injections, we will cleanse your skin with an antiseptic.

If you want, we can use a numbing cream to make the injections as painless as possible. It takes about 20-30 minutes for this numbing cream to kick in.

However, many clients do not need this, as they feel the pain is tolerable.

We will then administer the Botox. This will only take a few minutes.

We will then keep you for a few minutes just to ensure that the treatment went as expected.

That’s it!

You can learn more about what will happen on the day of the treatment here

What To Do After The Botox Treatment?

The Botox treatment should take only about 30-45 minutes, and afterwards you will be able to continue with your day as you normally would.

That said, we recommend that you follow the guidelines below.

We recommend that you stay away from painkillers, blood thinning medications and alcohol, for about 2 days after the treatment. This is in order to avoid provoking bruising and swelling.

Also, you should not touch the areas where the injections were made. Try not to rub or massage the treated area for about a week. This will help the injected material to stay in place.

We also recommend that you avoid facials, chemical peels, microdermabrasions, etc. for about a week. This is also to ensure that the injection stays in its intended area.

You can exercise lightly, but we advise you to avoid strenuous exercise for about 2 days after the treatment. This is also to make sure the injected material does not move.

To keep the Botox where it was injected, we also recommend that you do not wear tight caps or hats that put pressure on the treated areas.

In addition, we suggest that you don’t scuba-dive or fly for 2 days after your treatment. This is because changes in air pressure can potentially move injections from where it was injected. Also, a tight scuba-diving mask can cause the same problem.

And lastly, we suggest that you are cautious with strong direct sun exposure and high heat (sauna, very hot showers, etc.) for the next 2 days. This can make your blood vessels dilate (expand) and may therefore increase bruising.

How Long Does It Take To Get Botox?

A Botox treatment is super quick. What takes the most time is in fact to wait for the numbing cream to work. To do the actual injections only takes a few minutes.

However, from when you first step into our facilities until you walk out, it normally takes 30-45 minutes.

Therefore, you can even come for a lunch-time appointment. 👍

How Soon Will I See Results From Botox?

The results are not immediate.

But you will normally start to see results after 1-3 days.

This is because it takes some time for your skin to revert to its smooth state. Your skin is flexible, but as we get older our skin becomes less flexible. Therefore, this process takes a few days.

The good news is that the effects will be more and more pronounced as more days and weeks pass by. After about 2 weeks, you should normally see impressive results.

Does It Hurt To Get Botox ?

You may feel slight discomfort. But most clients say that the discomfort is tolerable.

However, if you want, we can apply a numbing cream. This will temporarily remove sensations from your skin so that you should feel no or very little pain.

You will then feel the pressure from the needle, but that should be it.

It may sound frightening to receive injections, but the vast majority of our clients tell us that the procedure is practically painless.

How Long Does Botox Last For?

Normally, a Botox injection will last for about 3-4 months.

That is because your body naturally removes the Botox bit by bit. When the Botox is gone, the muscles that were paralyzed start to regain function.

The good news is that a Botox treatment does not have permanent results. Imagine if you were not happy with it?

However, if you are happy with the results and you want to maintain your new look, you should consider treatments 3-4 times a year.

Also, as you do repeated treatments, you may experience that you need less frequent injections.

What Are The Side Effects From Botox?

Botox is considered a very safe treatment, and normally there are no, or only mild, side effects.

And the good news is that these potential side effects are very mild and normally disappear within 48 hours.

These potential side effects are bruising, redness, or swelling where the injection was made.

Is It Safe To Get Botox?

Yes, Botox is considered a very safe treatment, and it is under normal circumstances very unlikely that you will experience any complications.

However, it is important that you only receive Botox by a licensed and certified professional. At our Bournemouth facility, all the clinicians have the required licenses and certificates.

Botulinum injections is one of the most extensively studied medical aesthetic treatments worldwide, and is approved for cosmetic use in about 100 countries. It has also been evaluated in more than 500 peer-reviewed articles in scientific and medical journals.

After Botox, Will I Be Able To Move My Face ?

Yes, after Botox you will be able to move your face and make facial expressions.

However, the specific local muscles that were treated with Botox, will become fully or partially paralyzed. Therefore, the movement of this specific muscle group will be restricted.

That said, there will be no changes to muscles or facial expressions that were not treated.

Will My Face Look Natural After Botox?

As long as the Botox was administered by a licensed and certified professional (like the ones at our Bournemouth clinic), it should only improve the appearance of your face. It should not give you a ‘frozen’ look or make you look unnatural.

Remember that we inject Botox to improve your appearance. We will therefore maintain your natural look as much as possible. 👍

How Common Is Botox?

In the UK, about one million Botox treatments are performed every year. Around the world, more than 100 million treatments are carried out every year.
