Botulinum (Botox) Treatment

Botox is a patented treatment made from a neurotoxin called Botulinum.

Botulinum is produced by a bacteria which lives in the natural environment.

Botox, as well as similar treatments such as Dysport, Xeomin or Myobloc, are used to treat fine lines and wrinkles.

They are also used to treat several muscular conditions, including eye squints, migraines, excess sweating and leaky bladders.

Botulinum is effective at treating these conditions because it stops or reduces the ability of the targeted muscles from remaining active.

It does this by stopping nerve cells from communicating with the targeted muscles. Therefore, when the muscles don’t receive any instructions from the nerve cells, they don’t move.

Or if they receive weaker signals, they move less.

Wrinkles and fine lines are mainly caused by muscle contractions. For instance, when a person repeatedly raises his or her eyebrows so that the skin on the forehead creates folds, this will normally create fine lines where the skin folds.

If these muscle contractions are done repeatedly over time, these fine lines will typically turn into deeper wrinkles.

What Botox does, is to stop this repeated muscle contractions.

Therefore, Botox can stop fine lines and wrinkles from forming, progressing, and in the long term,  even potentially reverse them.

The procedure involves injecting tiny amounts of Botox into the muscles that cause your fine lines or wrinkles.

When these muscles are no longer allowed to contract as they used to, the skin above the muscle will no longer fold (or fold less), and the line or wrinkle will stop its expansion.
